Yeah, but anyways, just some remarks: D In the end, I did enjoy this book. Aug 20, Beatriz rated it really liked it Shelves: This was a really fun read. I really liked the use of suspense mixed in with sports. I also felt the depiction of Holly and Nate's relationship was pretty realistic.
I hate instalove and I hate when the guy is possessive and overbearing, and there was none of that here. Nate was just a guy who really liked a girl and wanted to see where it went. He got understandably freaked when she became more invested than he was ready for and I felt that part of their struggle was portrayed in a very real way. Sometimes Holly was a bit over-the-top insecure. That doesn't make you a wimp. But overall, both she and Nate were likable and fun to read. My one big complaint is that I thought it was silly that, considering he was already not sleeping with anyone but Holly, he couldn't promise that he wouldn't do it while was with her.
After a month of dating, I don't think it's unreasonable for a woman to ask a guy to only sleep with her. One part really jarred me out of the story, though. The first time she sees Nate naked, she notes that he must have a great BMI because he has no flab. BMI doesn't take fat into account at all, it's a measure of weight to height. Given his size and muscle mass, he probably has a terrible BMI. A doctor should know that. Not sure if any of the other medical jargon was good or bad because I know nothing about surgery or cardiology, but that part distracted me.
Beyond that, the sex was steamy and fun. The writing was pretty good, easy to read, and light. I'll definitely be checking out the rest of the series. Dec 30, Amanda Hootie Clark rated it liked it. Did you see the cover? This was one of those books that I didn't know what I thought about it until it was done.
It was OK, I didn't feel a connection to the characters like I was hoping to. The story was decent, you got the shy, insecure Doctor, Holly Bell who by chance meets a popular baseball player Nate Carter and that sets off a whirlwind romance. They have hot sexual chemistry they can't deny but he isn't ready to settle down and after almost a month of dating Holly wants hi Did you see the cover?
They have hot sexual chemistry they can't deny but he isn't ready to settle down and after almost a month of dating Holly wants him to agree to not bang other women while with her. While they figuring out what to do about their relationship Holly experiences some dramatic bullshit with the parent of one of her patients that causes her some stress. Throughout the story she is trying to save a little boy's life but meets Resistance with the kids' father.
The guy is unstable and you find out just how Koo-Koo this bitch is. The characters were pretty cool, Holly got on my nerves when she freaks out about Nate not porking other chicks when she banged him on their first date! Ladies if you bang a guy on your first date and then cry about why he left you There are two supporting characters in this book that make into the next book titled FASTBALL that I actually want to read next because these characters captured my attention in this book. Hardball had everything a story needs: Even though I didn't connect with the characters the book was pretty good.
This book is FREE so give it a read and tell me what you think. Alright I gotta go pluck my chin hairs so you mofo's have a great day! Jul 28, Natasja rated it liked it.
Holly is also not ready of all the attention this gorgeous pitcher is giving her from the moment they meet. Nate Carter is a star pitcher and has a highly reputation with the ladies. But is he looking for a good time or is he finally ready for commitment? Sykes is a great contemporary novel with a fabulous storyline. When Doctor Holly meets pitcher Nate you can feel the sparks fly, the attraction between them is huge and you know a relationship is not far behind. I love Holly and Nate from the start, they both have their baggage from the past and need to deal with it in their own way.
It was great to see that Nate finally came to his senses and admit his true feelings for Holly. It was great and I really hope to read more of this writing couple in the near future. Aug 04, Judith rated it really liked it. A delightful novel that is great for romance fans, sports fans, and for those who really like a spicy story with some very real edge to it. The doctor has her professional demands, not the least are the concerns of the parents of her pediatric patients. It is not pleasant when a parent just can't seem to cooperate, but when a parent becomes threatening and uses intimidation to prevent treatment for his child, then things heat up and the story is not only a romance with its ups and 4.
It is not pleasant when a parent just can't seem to cooperate, but when a parent becomes threatening and uses intimidation to prevent treatment for his child, then things heat up and the story is not only a romance with its ups and downs but the element of threat and violence hovers in the background. This is a story of the clash of two worlds: Trying to bridge the gap between the two can be tricky and managing to do so can be the most challenging undertaking either the doctor or the baseball player have ever faced.
Add in an incapacitating injury, a difference of viewpoints that threatens to derail the love affair, and you have a book that is compelling on many fronts and which will keep the reader moving forward with avid interest just to see if 1 these two can make it and 2 the parent of the hurting child can be caged. I read it in one sitting and highly recommend it as full of dynamic action, hot loving, and some life lessons we all can stand to learn about ourselves and those we either are in relationship with or with those we hope to eventually relate to. Just a really terrific read! Ooo, this book is hot!
Nate Carter starts out as seemingly sort of full of himself and that's exactly what Dr. Holly Bell thinks when she first meets him. Quickly she and we readers realize that's not the case. Holly and Nate quickly fall into a relationship even though they come from two very different worlds. This book sucked me right in! The book is a romance and there is some hotness throughout the book but this book has great characters that really serve to carry the story along.
Nate is a p Ooo, this book is hot! Nate is a pro baseball player who is down to earth and very caring. Holly Bell is a pediatric doctor who is mired in a case where she thinks one of her young patients may be being abused. The patient's father is a pretty terrible guy. He's rough and has a pretty sordid past where he got away with some things that he should have never gotten away with. Holly is frightened for her patient, Tyler.
Holly isn't sure that she's going to be able to take care of the situation with Tyler's father without making it worse. Luckily she's pretty resourceful! There's definitely more that meets the eye in this book. I flew through it most of it in one afternoon. It was the perfect book for curling up on the couch on a chilly afternoon with. If you're looking for a romance with a good story line, this certainly fits the bill!
Mar 04, Heather rated it it was amazing. An all-star Philly baseball player, Nate Carter, bumps into a sweet doctor with a big heart, Holly Bell when he's making rounds cheering up children at the local hospital. The chemistry is instant and Nate knows he'll need to find a plan to get to know the good doctor better. Holly was caught off guard when the charming, athletic, breathtaking Nate stumbles into her in one of her patient's rooms. Cautious with her heart and dedicated to her work, dating a celebrity athlete was not part of her plan. When Nate asks her to accompany him to a golf dinner, however, she finds it hard to refuse. As things grow steamy between Nate and Holly, things at the hospital begin to heat up as well - but not in a good way. A difficult father threatens Holly's life as well as puts the life of his son in jeopardy. Holly must put the boy first in a fight to save his life, despite his father's threats and stalking.
Meanwhile she's falling fast and hard for Nate, who doesn't appear to be ready to make the some commitment she is. Will Nate be willing to give up his wild lifestyle for Holly? Will Holly risk her life to save her patient? This book is a page turner. A great mix of an exciting story, a steamy hot romance, and a nice dose of baseball for the fans out there.
I totally loved this book! Jan 23, Elaine rated it really liked it Shelves: There's a whole lotta story in this story, and for that alone I'd say you'll get your money's worth out of this book. Here's my 2 cents worth: Holly Bell is a no-nonsense pediatric cardiac surgeon. Love interest Nate Carter is one hot, charming and disarmingly sexy baseball player.
Even as her brain is saying "no, bad idea", her mouth is saying "yes, Yes, Ok, yes". It's actually funny at times, becau There's a whole lotta story in this story, and for that alone I'd say you'll get your money's worth out of this book. It's actually funny at times, because she acquiesces as she is thinking it's a bad idea to get involved, but she just can't help herself. There's no denying their chemistry and they burn up the sheets, but Holly is not interested in dealing with a playboy.
Nate is nothing if not honest. He's seriously enamored with Holly and not interested in anyone else but doesn't want anyone putting restrictions on him. Holly deals with some crazy parents, some very sick kids and the distraction of a hot man, where she can't afford the distraction. Even if you're not a sports fan, this book is a fun ride.
Jan 29, Christa Simpson rated it really liked it. Holly Bell is a pediatric surgeon who just started her new position at a hospital in Philadelphia. She meets the infamous Nate Carter, a pro ball player though she's never heard of him , while he's visiting sick children. Immediate sparks and let the romance begin. There's also some stuff about a crazy ass father of an ill patient, but I'm not gonna go there.
I guess the doc's been less than active sexually, and yet that doesn't stop her from doing Nate on the first date. Apparently she just Dr.
Apparently she just can't control herself, and I just can't blame her. Nate Carter is handsome, thoughtful, charming and good with kids to boot. Throw in that he's rich and sexy and it makes for an irresistible combo for Dr. Toward the end, I just wanted Nate to say he'd stop seeing other ladies already. Why wouldn't he just say it??!!
We all knew he wanted to. I got a kick out of the twist with the snow globe. You'll have to read it for yourself if you want to know what I'm talking about. It's worth a read. Jan 15, Ellen rated it it was amazing Shelves: I got Hardball by V. Sykes for free on Amazon. Hardball is a pleasant contemproary romance with a lot of heat!
Just have a look-see at the cover. To me the story doesn't really have any surprises in it, but it's very well written and easy to read. There is some suspense in the book and I knew there was going to be a showdown close to the end. Holly is a strong, successful, some what shy female heroine and I enjoyed her standing up to Nate for what she needed and wanted. Nate was a really down to e I got Hardball by V.
Nate was a really down to earth guy even if he was a rich ballplayer. The characters are very likeable, their strengths are shown as well as their flaws, so the reader can see them as real people. It was nice to seeing thier relationship develop threw out the book.
Holly and Nate definitely had a connection from the beginning. They each view life from a very different perspective and thats were you get some obstacles that they most over come. For me That is the kind of story I really like and the kind I perfer when its all said and done. Jan 11, ShaniceRhynd rated it really liked it. This book was a good read, good characters and storyline. Holly Bell comes across as a confident "don't take no shit" kind of gal but when she meets Nate Carter, a pro baseball player she falls head over heels. I though Nate was a bit stuck up his own butt at the beginning and even throughout yet not as much.
He always gets the girls and he's the best pitcher ever etc etc. When he and Holly are going through a 'hard time' I really felt for Holly, some would see she wa This book was a good read, good characters and storyline. When he and Holly are going through a 'hard time' I really felt for Holly, some would see she was pushing Nate to soon but I can actually see her point. She wanted to know if it was going somewhere or if a few months down the line he'd find a new fancy because she knew she was falling for him. In return he wants her to wait for him to make the decision whether he wants her or wants to bang other women!
If it was me he'd get a slap in the chops and kick somewhere else. The story was good, not that exciting except for the end with the counter story but still made me smile reading it and hot sex scenes too: Sep 25, Marissa Culp rated it really liked it Shelves: He is from a working class family; she is from a wealthy one. He plays the field, she seldom dates.

But the electricity flies and the two become involved. This may be a typical romance novel but the story is well written and had me rooting for the hero and heroine as they loved, fought and loved again.
